I think we did a good job of making the most of our last day in Sweden.

Our plan in the morning was for the four of us to head back to Gamla Stan to get a few more gifts. However, Eva suggested that we all (Jydes, Longs, and Erik Waara) tour around Waxholm (an old city in the Archipelago) instead. The plan was to visit the Waxholm fortress which was built in the 16th century and protected Sweden from a Russian invasion. Nowadays, it is used for Escape Rooms! Unfortunately, the fortress ended up being closed for the rest of December so we just had to admire it from the shore…

For most of the afternoon, we strolled around Waxholm shopping, exploring the pretty neighbourhood, and having lunch at a cafe. 🙂

Once we had seen the sights, everyone piled back into the cars and went to checkout out the Jydes property on a lake where they will be building their new house! Next time we come to Sweden, it will have to be in the summer so we can enjoy the lake life:) After that, we briefly stopped in at a viking historical site/burial ground in the neighborhood before heading to the Jydes house for dinner (Tacos! Apparently taco Friday is actually a nationwide custom that most people partake in… I’m not joking!).

It was sad to say goodbye but we are already looking forward to welcoming the swedes in Canada for the summer of 2024! 🙂
