As well, we have turned our Christmas tree into a shrine for Danne. He has no idea that he has become an obsession for this entire cabin.
Anyway, December 27th….
It snowed!! We woke up to 15cm of fresh powder which opened up some new terrain for us to ski. Besides the odd rock hiding just below the surface, the skiing was good! It was so nice to get a bit of variety. However, the lift shut down for a little while after lunch and by the time it opened again, it was dark out (we only have about 4 hours of light a day) and we had to go back to skiing our favourite two runs again.
After dinner, we all played “the swedish Christmas game” which is a bit like White Elephant/Mean Santa except more fun. About a month before we came to Sweden, we were told to each buy three gifts that were equivalent to $12.50 (the same as 100 swedish krona). Everyone had to wrap each gift individually and put it under the tree. There were three steps to the game. The first involved passing two dice around the table, if someone rolled a 6 they got to pick a gift. After that, everyone got to unwrap their gifts (if they got them which I did not) and show the table what they got. The final step was the most fun. This time we only passed one dice around, if someone rolled a 1 they had to give a gift to whomever they wanted, 3 meant you had to exchange a gift, and 6 meant you could steal a gift. We all discovered quickly that the best strategy was to work together as a family so it became a war between the Longs, the Jydes, and the Martinsons. This last step of the game was timed so when the timer went off, the dice rolling stopped. I managed to score some candy, lotion, and a lottery ticket (I didn’t win any money).
Funny story. See the mini hat my dad is wearing? It was wrapped up for the Christmas game. Turns out, Isabel got it for Christmas from her grandpa and Stig wrapped it thinking it was for the game. She had been looking for it for days and was very confused when she saw this guy wearing it. Busted!
