"I think I am quite ready for another adventure..." -Bilbo Baggins

December 19th

Okay, I’m finally caught up on the blogs… Phew.

Today, the four of us were on our own because it was a work/school day for everyone else. That meant we had no babysitters to direct us around town… Uh oh. Thankfully, we managed to figure out the public transit pretty well. Using public transit today made me feel like I was in a game of Scotland yard. We took buses, a boat, and the underground to get around town!

First stop: the Vasa Museum! Home of the great swedish war ship which was built in Stockholm around the 1500s and sunk 1500m into its maiden voyage. It sat at the bottom of the harbour until 1959. Now the Vasa has been fully recovered and is being carefully preserved in the museum. The story of the Vasa is wild, we spent a good three hours in the museum looking at the ship and artifacts from the time it was built as well as reading LOTS of signs (well, some of us were at least…).

the ship is too big to capture in one photo

After the Vasa Museum, we took a boat back to Gamla Stan to do some more shopping and sightseeing.

More updates to come! 🙂
