Inquiry 6: Craft Fairs and Farmers Markets (more than just doilies)

I have been doing some research on local markets where I could potentially have a stand. Here are my findings so far…

1. I discovered this week that UVic is hosting an artisan fair in the SUB on November 30th. This is an opportunity for experienced and emerging artists to showcase and sell their work! I have already signed up, just waiting to hear if I meet the requirements… If I do, guess my reading break will have to be FULL of art making as I don’t have nearly enough material to have a stand at the moment. It does cost 35$ to have a table so I hope I can at least make a bit of a profit… Honestly, I don’t even care that much about the money. I am just SO excited about the opportunity!!!! I will keep you folks updated. Here is a link with more details:

2. Several people recommended that I look into the “Moss Street Paint In” which happens once a year in Victoria. Over 100 vendors line up on Moss street in May to sell their work! https://www.mustbevictoria.com/paint-in.html

3. The Robson Valley Music festival is an event I have wanted to attend for some time and how fun would it be to attend it as a vendor. Malena, who I interviewed in one of my first inquiry blogs, told me about it. I think it would be so much fun to hangout at the stand during the day and listen to some cool bands at night! A dream come true really. As well, this is a very hippie event and I think my art would fit in well with the crowd. I think this would be a super fun weekend trip to do during the summer seeing as a live only two hours away.

4. Last of all, I researched the Prince George Farmers Market. This is an event I would consider attending consistently during the summers I have off (my teacher summers:). The outdoor one runs every Saturday from June until September. The application process is a bit more complicated for this one as vendor’s need a business license and having a table is definitely more pricey than the other markets I was looking. This why I plan on waiting a few years before giving it a try.

That’s it for now. Hope you enjoyed this week’s blog! Next week, I am going to look at potential table displays so make sure to stay tuned if you’re interested!
