This week, as part of my marketing exploration, I chose to research some local businesses (focusing on ones in and around Prince George, BC) that might be open to displaying some of my work. In the past, I have hung up a few paintings at Zoe’s Javahouse (@zoesjavahouse) which all sold relatively quickly. This physical method of marketing has by far been my most successful mainly because the regulars who eat and shop at local places like Zoe’s, are the types of people who are most likely to relate to the paintings I have made about Prince George and the surrounding area.

The next place I researched is called the Makerie (@themakerie.pg). I talked to the owner when I was in town and she told me that displaying art for a long amount of time would not work since the store is constantly re-decorating depending on the season. However, as a compromise, she offered for me to come and set up a pop-up shop sometime next spring for free! I told her I would definitely take her up on the offer! 🙂

Now that I have secured spots at two cafes, I decided to switch it up and ask the local bookstore, Books and Company (@booksandcompanyprincegeorge). I sent an email to the owner but am still waiting on a reply. I am worried this one might be a bit of a stretch seeing as I don’t have very many finished projects right now and, from what I have seen, Books and Co. likes to have artists display between five and ten works at a time… If this is the case, I doubt I will follow through with it because I would rather have my art in a variety of places.

The final place I contacted is in Valemount, BC. I made a painting of the Valemount bike park this summer and I am hoping to display it in the Three Ranges Brewing. The owners have yet to get back to me.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned, next week I will be looking into some craft fairs and farmers markets!!!
