This Wednesday, I had my very first craft fair booth! Yireh and I set up a table at the UVic Artisan Market where we sold stickers and original artwork. For the first hour of the craft fair we were really stressed because no one was buying anything. I panicked and decided to drop some of my prices a bit. After that sales started to increase. I ended up selling all but two paintings which I am super excited about. All in all, I figure I probably spent about $150 on materials for the craft fair so my estimation is that I made $150 in profit. Thinking back on it, I am afraid I might have priced my work to cheaply… I was worried that students wouldn’t be willing to pay what I was asking but there were a lot of adults at the fair as well that might have. Oh well, at least I’ll know for next time!
Another thing I learned was that my stickers were definitely not as popular as my paintings and so, I don’t think I would make them again unless I got an Ipad and it was going to be a simpler process than what I went through to make those stickers…
Overall, I am happy with how the craft fair went and I think that I would be willing to do more as long as it wasn’t during the school year, I had lots of time to prepare, and I would have someone there to help me out. I managed to do all the preparations for this fair during school this year but I must admit, it was really hard. I have discovered that I can not paint with a time constraint because I end up rushing and then being unhappy with my work. Maybe a summer farmer’s market would be more my style…
Anyway, thanks for reading about my journey to creating my art business!! Although I won’t be posting about it anymore, this project will be ongoing so stayed tuned on my Instagram (nova_long_7)!!
