Week 7: The Tactical TOC

I have been experiencing the struggle surrounding classroom management in my Link2Practice classroom; however, I can only imagine how much harder this would be as a substitute teacher…

During the EdCamp this week, the most valuable talk that I participated in was the talk about classroom management. Most of the questions that people were asking Joanna had never even occurred to me before. I still haven’t really accepted the fact that I might spend some time as a TOC and as a result, I haven’t done any research on this career path. The discussion we had about how TOCs can best prepare themselves for any classroom environment was eye opening. Joanna’s strategy about having an ā€œemergency sub bagā€ full of lessons and activities struck me as a genius idea. She also highlighted how important it is as a TOC to leave feedback on how the day went which is not something I would have thought of even though I can understand why it is so essential.

I understand that most people who are reading this blog won’t have been at the classroom management discussion so I found a YouTube video that covers similar content to what we discussed (I would suggest skipping the first couple of minutes to get to the more valuable content :). I found this one relatable because the speaker in the video is quite new to teaching and therefore, the content is simple and answers some general questions that I had as an inexperienced teacher.

Have a great week!
